Love actually is a romantic comedy this is seen through genre indicators throughout the trailer. one of the main indicators is the physical connection in the characters such as kissing and hugging throughout. another scene indicator is the sound used which is upbeat and heard to be happy and fun which indicates the comedy side of the film. the target audience for this film is mainly females but can be viewed by both genders. the age range that this film targets is 15+ due to romantic nature of love and how females of this age and above can relate to.

Sound: one type of sound that is heard in the opening of the trailer is non diegetic sound that is heard through narration. the use of the narration allows the audince get an understanding of what the films going to be like as the narrator is explaining the films that have been made by the producer. another type of non diegetic sound is the backing music that opening the production company's this is effective as is smoothly introduces the narration and sets a happy upbeat scene. another type of sound used in the trailer is diegetic sound this is of the characters dialogue in the trailer. that dialogue that is heard is effect because it just briefly explains the problems that will occur throughout. this keeps the audience engaged and focused on what the story line is about.

Mise en scene: an example of mise en scene that helps the audience relate to the characters is the customs that they are wearing there basic average ages appropriate clothes. this small piece of mise en scene is effect as it indicates that the characters are normal individual that go through the same issues that everyone else faces. this allows the audience to feel involved in the film which causes them to feel lost and engaged.  another piece of mise en scene that is is used effectively in the film is locations throughout the trailer we are shown different locations this is explained more throughout the film but the use of this is effective because it shows that now matter where anyone is in the world nothings more important than love one of the locations is an airport this is effective as it could imply that no matter where someone is in the world love will always bring them back together.

Camera: in the opening to the trailer a medium shot is used to show the connection between two characters as introducing characters is a main feature in all trailers. throughout the trailer medium shots are used as it allows for two characters to be in shot with a sense of closeness. but further on in the trailer over the shoulder shots are used to capture the facial expression of the character that is being spoken to. this type of shot is effective because it allows for the audience to see the feelings and reactions of the characters through expression and empathise with the characters emotions.

editing: The editing styles used in this trailer are very effective and link with the pace of the tempo the editing style used is pace editing due to the shots are only seconds apart and very fast. this style is not normally seen in romantic genres and the editing is usually slower to build a romantic scene. so the use of the faster editing in this trailer shows the comical side as this is what editing technique is used in comedy. the more well known actors in the film has more screen time in the trailer due to there large success it could help entice more to watching it.  this also allows for the audince to relate more to the characters that are most important. another editing feature used is swipes this editing transition is used most commonly to cut to the next scene in a smooth way. this was used effectively in the trailer as it allowed the following scene to be introduced in a swift way which linked to the sound but alos in a way in which it is comfortable for the audience to watch.

Empire Magazine analysis - the joker

This also is created by the film magazine company called empire who is advertising the new film suicide squad, which is an action. the cover shows a character from the film standing holding some sort of weapon, the character from the film is called the joker hes played by the actor Jared leto. that character is dressed in nothing but a purple coat as we only see a medium shot of him. his hair is colored green and his lips are painted red this is effective and makes the magazine stand out as these are the stereotypical colors of the original joker from the batman films which a lot of fans loved. the weapon that he is holding is effective as it shows there could be violence in the film.

Text is used very effectively on the magazine as it draws people in through the way the titles are positioned and designed the names of the magazine sits behind the joker at the top of the magazine this is effective as it makes the joker look more dominant and powerful. also the use of the words meet the joker is a bold incising statement as it makes the audience want to see what characteristics and personality he has. the name of the film is placed in the bottom left of the magazine which is in bold blocked text which is the same writing that is used in for the title of the film.

The use of color on the magazine is very effective as the background of the character has been blurred out for effect to make the colors of his costume look very bold and vibrant. in batman the joker is known for having the color green associated with him, the use of green paint like effects behind the words is very effective as it looks like he has made them his.

Total film magazine analysis - Avatar

The film magazine is advertising the very successful film called avatar directed by James Cameron. on the front cover we see one main charter on the front that is the main focus that the audience see. the main avatar is a cleverly designed animation that was created using the actor Sam worthington. the character on the front cover is seen to be looking slightly to the right of the camera this is effective as it makes the character look in deep thought.

The uses of text in this poster is very basic as it has the name of the film in bold white writing which does have a good effect and makes it stand out to the audience. the use of the words intergalactic exclusive is used effectively as its seen to be a never seen before sneak peek of what the films like. this is effective as it draws and incises people in. the use of the phrase a decade in the making is very effective because due to the time its saying to took to the make the film this imply that the film is going to be breathtaking and outstanding as James Cameron has taken longer to make it. the use of the name of the magazine put behind the character on the cover is very effective as it makes the character standout more but not so much so that the name of the film is seen in the foreground.

The colors used in this poster is also very basic as the background colors are made up of different tones of blue with the character is made up of also which doesn't give the character a huge impact for standing out. on the other hand the writing is seen very clearly as the white shows very well over the dark blue background.

This poster is of a romantic drama film called titanic this poster shows two characters male and female these characters are called rose and jack. the characters are played by leonardo dicaprio and kate winslet. with the two characters being largely put in the background of this poster covering half the poster it makes it clear to the audince who the main characters are. the way the two characters are so close together and holding hands shows tot eh audince that they are very close and are romantically involved. the use of the two actors names on the poster is shown in bold white letters this is a unique selling point as the audince or fans of romantic dramas could be drawn in through the well known famous actors starring in it.

The use of the text on the poster is very effective as the title of the film is in big bold lettering that is coloured white, the colouration of the text on the poster works very well as the main pieces of information that the poster wants the audience to see is in white and the other in a darker colour so that it stands out less. the slogan on the poster is very effective as it reads nothing on earth could come between them, this strong slogan links well to the closeness of the two characters above.

The lighting of the poster is very effective as the two characters as seen as very well lit and colorful which makes them come across and happy and full of life. then the boat is put in between them and then the colour changes to darker colors which indicates to the audince that the boat is going to effedct them and there happyness. the colouration of the darker background allows the text to be seen clearer with white lettering this also gives the text a bolder look.

This film poster is an action adventure film called i am legend the poster shows the lead character in the film called dr robert thsi main character is played by will smith.Three character is placed on the right side of the screen this allows for the background to be shown clearly as well as much as the character. That background shows abandoned and derelict buildings with rolled over cars outside with plants growing on the street floor. this is very effective in the poster as it makes the audience wonder what's happened to the place and whys hes the only character in sight.

The lettering that is seen on the poster is the main title of the film this shown starting of in small letters then getting bigger till the biggest word legend is in big bold capital letters. this is effective as it makes the audience think that is this word related to the characters character. the other use of words on the screen in the main actors name which is will smith this is seen as a unique selling point as he is a well know and famous actor, which most people know of and like this means that they would or could be more interested in the film as he stars in it. the other use of titles on the poster is a slogan this reads the last man on earth is not alone. this is a very effective slogan to put on the poster as it draws in the attention of the audince and leaves them thinking about what it could mean. as in the poster he is the only man and character sdeen.

The shot of the man in the poster is a low angle shot this is an effective angle as it makes the character look more dominant which links to the the title in a good way. the lighting in the background are dark and dull colors this links to the setting and scenario. this is also used for effect as it allows the text stand out more so its seen clearer to the audince. in the background on the buildings there is a toxic looking sign that shows clearly this indicates to the audience that it could be a zombie like take over or an infection thats killed everyone.

Film poster analysis - Star trek

The poster for this sci fi film is star trek the poster shows the three main characters these are played by james t kirk who is seen in the middle of the poster the positioning of his character shows that he is the lead character, this character's name is chris payne. the other male character that is shown on the right in this poster is spock normally in the star trek he is the lead character but this new remake of the film he is shown as not the lead character, this character's name is zachary quinto. The woman that is seen on the left is uhura one of the main characters seen in the film. Below the characters we see the old enterprise ship that is an iconic piece in the star trek films, this is a good unique selling point as so many fans of this very successful film love.

The use of having such original uses in this new remake is a very uniques selling point as the fans of this original film loved all the aspects of it. using some of these such as the ship and one of the old spock makes the fans relate and feel more engaged to the poster.

the bold title is place at the lower area of the poster the name of the film star trek is scene in big bold letters all in caps and the other part of the name is in smaller letters. the title is all seen in capital letters this is an effective choice for film posters as it makes it stand out more to the audience that it is targeted at. the colour of the title is white which is opposite to the background colour as it allows for the writing to stand out more this colour is used for all the writing on the poster. the effect of have just star trek in the biggest font is very effective as the fans of this genre will be drawn in by the main name of this film, due to the eye catching and bold effect that it gives. The lighting that is used  in the background is of a darker tone.

There is no main actors advertised on the poster as there is such a big following and fan club for this film as just the name of the film advertised is good enough advertisement for the film. the camera angle of the three characters is a medium shot which has angle to it this is effective as it is not clear who has the higher status or who would have prevalence in the film this sees them as all being equal to each other.

The use of the enterprise in the background and the man on a motorbike in the foreground is used very effectively as it shows to the audince that the film has a lot of good action in it. this is also a clear genre indicator to the target audince and draws them into the film and left wanting to see it just through the poster as its left them with unanswered questions.

The hangover Trailer analysis - Comedy

the hangover is a comedy film about four men who go on a 24 hour stag in las vegas and they bump into all sorts of things along the way. the actors that stars in the film is bradley cooper, ed helms ,Zach Galifianakis and justin bartha these are the four main actors in the film. this film have a age restricted to 15 years and older due to the nature of the film.

Camera: the opening clip to the hangover is a establishing shot of a house this is effective as it sets the scene for where the next shot and clip is taking place. the scene then moves inside the house to two men talking with a medium shot of the characters with a reverse shot used to show that two characters having a conversation in a natural way. this type of camera shot is commonly seen in comedy as the nature of this genre is very dialogue based. The trailer then cuts to  a man and woman sitting on a sofar with again a reverse shot used to show their in conversation but a medium to close ups are used during the conversation to show facial expression but also used for a comical effect when the male character says something that is seena wrong or not right the camera shot changes to a close up to capture the emotion in the moment. the scene then cuts to a dolly shot that is used when the men are all in the car this is effective as it gives a more sense of realism as the car is moving. the camera angle then changes to a side view of the car which is seen as a long shot to see the men in the car clearly and which ones are more out there and comical that others.  the camera shot is then followed up by a medium shot of two of the men just looking at each other. this is effective as it shows the emotion and sets a joke like mood in the trailer through facial expressions. the camera then cuts to a close up/ establishing shot of the las vegas sign which helps the audince set the scene again but also understand that the new setting is a wild and loud place to be. this is effective as it shows that the characters will be getting  all types of trouble due to the setting. another dolly shot is used to follow the men into their hotel rooms this is an effective shot as it makes the audince feel apart of the scene the to the closeness of the camera to the men when walking in. later on in the trailer the  setting changes to them in the next day in the hotel room this is seen through a still medium shot if one of the characters faces. this is effective as it shows how tired and worn out he is. another dolly shot is used to show the mess that was made the night before this is effective as it is a relatable scenario that older teens and adults can relate to. throughout the trailer close up shots are used when trying to focus in on a scenario or item this type of camera shot is commonly seen in comedy to focus on a comical piece in the film.

Editing: the opening clip to the trailer is a quick cut from a black screen to the establishing shot this type of quick edit is effective as it makes the start of the scene more dramatic and with a larger impact. the clips are edited very smoothly with the sound which makes the scene easier to watch for example in the next scene the clip is edited to a faster pace scene when the music picks up.  in the next clip the time of the clip has been make quicker this is an effective editing technique as it shows time moving by due to the fast pace. the quicker pace scene nicely fade into the following scene when the guys enter the hotel room, this is effective as it makes the scene look more easy flowing and neater to watch.  due to this part of the scene being in las vegas quick clips of typical vegas activities are shown with a pace edit inbetween seen as a fade to go through fast and neatly between clips. the faster pace editing makes the scenes feel  more comical and non serious as the edit transitions between are calm fades. this is effective as it links well with the other technical elements. throughout the whole trailer the same style of transitions and pace edits are used to give the same comical fun feel. text is then added later on in the trailer to inform the audince of the film in a fun comical style. the quick cut to black with cool funky font links to the genre of the film.

Mise en scene: in the opening of the hangover the establishing shot shows a big american style house. the size of the house tells me that these people must have a lot of money and must be in a good job. the scene the cuts inside the house to two men putting suits on which is stereotypically warn by upper class wealthy people. the setting of the room is also seen as being very posh with having art and pottery in the room on display. this is effective as it show that this character is of a different ability to the average man due to wealth. further on in the trailer the four guts are seen in a nice expensive car this links the four men to having money and being able to spend money on anything they want. the scene then develops into the four men being in vegas due to the famous las vegas sign being show as a setting in the clip. the atmosphere of the scene then changes to a more comical scene as the men wake up to a abomination of mess, this is very effective as it helps give more of a joke like feel to the scene. the mean have been shown as being more distressed and warn through the use of makeup in the scene with one of the men losing a tooth and the others looking really tired this is very effective as it gives the sense of time gone by and the men have been through hard times.

Sound: much like other comedy trailer openings, this trailer opens with non diegetic music with an upbeat tempo that is used for effective as it makes the scene feel more relaxed and integrating. the non diegetic music then fades slightly so that the dialogue of the two characters is here this use of sound in the clip is effective because the drop of non diegetic music allows the  joke that one of the characters says come through clearly. the scene then fades to a production advertisement during this transition the non diegetic sound changes to a louder and more upbeat instrumental this is very effective because it helps change atmosphere in the scene to more exciting and joke like feel. like in most comedy trailers when a joke or comical phrase is about to be said the non diegetic music stops to gain a greater effect in the moment. this use of sound is seen in this trailer when two characters are sitting on a sofa trying to have a serious conversation. later on in the trailer the dialogue stops and the non diegetic sound is the main sound track that is played then as the scene fades quickly the music comes to a stop and only ambient sound is heard. this is effective as it gives the effect of reality in the scene.

Dumb and Dumber Trailer analysis - Comedy

Dumb and dumber is a comedy film with two well know actors jim carrey and jeff daniels this was a huge unique selling point for this film as these are two well known actors that have started in many different films. the film is about to friends who are seen as very childlike and stupid and come into a lot of money and have to return it to its owner.

Camera: the scene of the trailer opens to a medium shot of two people talking the two people are both in frame this is effective shot as it shows that the two characters are having a conversation. the camera then cuts to a mdeuim shot of one of the characters talking the switches to the other characters talking in the car this reverse shot is used effectively to shoot the characters engaging in conversation. When the camera cuts back the the woman character outside of the car the camera is set up in a low angle shot then pans back to the guy in the car which is just a straight medium shot this is effective as it shows the the woman charterer has more dominance and shows that she has more authority than the man and higher up mentally. this is a very effective camera angle as it links back well to the storyline of the men being stupid this also helps the audince to characterize who's the stupid men in the film.  thescne then cuts to two men sitting in a dinner having a conversation a reverse shot is used again to show the two characters talking but the over the shoulder shot used in the this scene is effective as it shows the facial expressions of the characters when talking. the camera then cuts to the two men sitting in a car one driving a  a third man sitting in the middle to medium straight angle camera shot used when the both characters are shown together in one frame is used effectively ass it gives the feel of the two men being equal. the trailer then progresses to the two men were suits which is shown through a medium shots with then the characters walking out of frame this is very effective as it helps the scene move on in a natural way. close up to medium shots are used when the two men are seen to being doing something stupid and childish to show the action and facial expression of the characters in the moment. like when one of the men have iced there tongue on a lamp post. the scene then cuts to a establishing low angle shot this is effective as it shows that the setting that the two men are in is very dominant and unnatural for them. the reverse shots used throughout this trailer are very effective as the conversation between the characters are very important due to the genre being a comedy so the dialogue is very important to be seen an heard.

Editing: during this trailer there is not a lot of highly professional editing, the main editing style used throughout the whole trailers is simple cuts the link the clips together in a chronological way.  the editing simplisticity is very effective as it helps give the basic comical feel that good comedies have. the use of not big editor effects helps keep the authentic cheesy comical effects that a fan of this genre look for.

Sound: the opening to dumb and dumber there is non diegetic sound playing before the trailer starts this is very effective as it helps build the comical feel before the trailer starts. this is faded down slightly to allow the dialogue to come through. the dialogue is very important in the trailer as it helps draw the audince into the film. in this part of the scene the woman is giving the guy in the car directions when the man says " thats a lovely accent you have are you from new jersey" and the woman replies " im from austria" this comical use of dialogue is heard clearly but is seen in a joke like way due to the non diegetic sound still played in the background. the scene then progress and the non diegetic sound builds up as the setting changes it then dies down again when the dialogue starts up two men are sitting at a dinner and one of them says "you must throw some salt over your right shoulder" so the other guy throws the whole salt shaker  this action is met with only ambient sound which is very effective as the action was the main comical focus in this clip.  the trailer then cuts to one of the men at a petrol station the non diegetic music then changes as the setting does this makes the audince feel that the trailer is showing clips from further into the film due to the pace of the tempo has sped up. the scene then cuts the the guys tongue stuck on a iced poll during this scene the non diegetic music is still being played but fades don when the over dramatic ambient sound is heard when he rips his tongue of the pole. this is very effective as it makes the audince feel more joke like when he takes his tongue of the th iced pole.in the trailer the non diegetic music will start all of the sudden when a joke is being said this is effective as it makes the  audince focus of the dialogue. when the scene changes to the next setting the non diegetic sound cuts straight to fit the setting when the two men are in a love and romantic place. this is effective as it helps over dramatic the scene which is what's seen as funny in the clip. this also happens when the two men are in the car driving around and messing around together the pace of the non diegetic sound is sped up but still faeds to allow dialogue and sounds of the characters to come through because some of the joke in the trailer and funny moments are seen through sound for example when the characters are in pain or messing around  with the source.

Mise en scene: in the opening scene the characters are seen to been in an ordinary american high street. This is effective as most people watch can relate to the normality of it.the costume of the two characters are seen to be normal but subverts the general stereotype as the less dominant man in the car is seen to be wearing a suit which is normally associated with upper class people. the scene the cuts to the two men sitting in a dinner which is helps the audince know where the scene is set. the two characters are wearing similar clothing which makes them seem more similar and makes the audince characterize them evenly. the trailer then cuts to the two men driving a furry dog car this is seen as very childlike and comical as is a very unnatural site. this use of prop is very effective as it helps the audince see how stupid and immature the two men are. the trailer then cuts to one of the men (jeff daniel) dressed up as a dog this use of costume if very effective as it shows how childish the man is but also shows that he doesn't see what's wrong with it as hes seen as acting very natural wearing it likes it normal.

Shaun of the Dead Trailer analysis - Comedy

Shaun of the dead is a comedy film is based around a group of friends that have to survive a zombie take over. this type of film is aimed at younger adults around 15+ due to the nature of the film.

Sound: The film opens with non diegetic music which subverts that genre to make the audience think its a horror due to the type of music played. this is very effective as it keeps the audience thinking and engaged in whats going to happen and whats the film going to be about. this is linked to the sound of moaning that is commonly heard in most zombie horror films. the sound is then met with a build of of more non diegetic sound but this time with a more up beat tempo that links more to a comedy genre the moaning slowly fades out so that the more up paced music can come throw more clearly. the next piece of sound used in the trailer is dialogue through voice over with ambient sound to make the scene look more authentic and real. the trailer then cuts through to two characters sitting on the bed with dialogue said through both characters which is heard a as joke and said in a joke like way this use of diegetic sound helps the trailer link back to the type of genre it is. later on in the trailer two characters are sitting in a pub and aq use of diegetic sound through talking helps set a natural public environment then a loud drop in the non diegetic tempo creates a pause in the atmosphere and makes the genre feel subverted again. this is very effective as it makes the audience feel more engage due to the confusion of genre indicators. the different types of sound in this trailer is used to great effect, for engagement , to create different types of atmosphere and for laughter as the genre is comedy.

editing: in the opening to the trailer a fade from black to white is used to start the trailer this is effective as it helps start the trailer in a more fluent and natural way. the scene then quickly ace cuts to different shots of the main character getting ready for what looks like work as one of the shots is of a name badge, these shots zoom in quickly to give a more quicker pace of the trailer. this is an effective style of editing as it links nicely to the non diegetic sound and this type of edit is seen a lot in comedy films. the zoom in editing feature that is used throughout this trailer is used for great effect as it shows what type of action and task the character is doing. later on in the trailer when the two characters are sitting in the pub a a fade to black is quickly usd when the atmosphere changes and the pace of the edits slow down this is used for a more scarier effect which is used to more the audince feel more worried in a comical way. following this scene a fade to clack is used to show text which is commonly seen in trailers, these fade to clacks are used well to add text as it makes the audince focus of the text for the amount of time that its shown normally just one or two words that can be a question for the viewers. the scene then cuts to shot bursts of news channels which is met with pace cuts again with a fuzzy like screen. this is effective as is gives a feel of a realistic tv that has lost connection this links well with the story line.

camera: In the trailer to shaun of the dead there is a mixture of different camera angles and shots used. there is a lot of close ups and medium shots throughout. in the opening scene we see a medium shot of some guys lower leg and feet with a slight high angle with it. this is effective as it guys a sense of vulnerability. the camera then pases up the charater to his face to capture his facial expression.this is effective in the trailer as it helps change the feel in the scene through facial expressions which like with the sound in this particular scene. the camera then cuts to pace close ups of what the character is doing, this is effective as it quickly helps the audience understand that the character is doing in the scene and what actions and activities hes doing but more sped up so that the close ups help move the scene forward more quickly. this is then followed up by an over the shoulder shot of him looking into a mirror this shot is effective in the scene as it shows his facial expression again so that the audince know how he feels about the situation in the scene which is shown as his work.  dollys shots are used for effective in the next scene to help show what direction the character is going, like when the character is running the camera is set at a long shot moving backwards this is effective because is shows clear movement of the character and helps the audience understand the struggle the character is going through as the whole body is seen in the long shot. the scene then progress to a close up of the characters face with the ca,era slowly moving in this zoom in dolly close up of the characters face is very effective as the moving gives the illusion of the character about to come to some destination as the facial expression is still and steady which makes him look like hes thinking. this same camera shots are seen and used through out of the rest of the trailer.

Mise en scene: In the opening to shaun of the dead as the camera zooms up as an audience we can see that it is set in a normal house. the scene then cuts to close ups of a normal morning routine of brushing teeth having a wash etc. this is very effective as it helps set the scene of the character being a normal ordinary person getting ready for work this is seen as the character puts on a name badge this type of costume and prop is very effective as it helps the audience understand what's coming up im the next scene help the audience understand what type of job the character had this can help the audience tell what kind of person he is.the scene the cuts to the character getting in and out of a london cabby this is very effective as it implies that the character lives somewhere near london due to the type of taxis.the type of costume that the characters are wearing are very stereotype of a job worker a shirt and tie.  as the trialer progress the characters costume gets more and more scruffy which shows that hes going through a hard and rough time.  the costumes of the zombies are seen as normal wear that average people wear, but due tot the nature of zombies the clothes are scruffed up and covered in blood. this is effective as it makes the zombies look more realistic and helps the over take of the world look more realistic due to them just being ordinary people. other effective use of mise en scene in the trailer is the make up of the zombies this has a huge impact of the scene of realism as it makes the zombies look more authentic.
