production titles

These two are the two production titles that as a group we have been working on we wanted to link our productions some how to the genre of horror by coloration and titles we have done this by having the main production image and lettering in black on a white background this is linked to the darkness of horror we also came up with the production name through the story line of our film that the antagonist has escaped from a mental asylum. we decided to use an old fashion film recorder as the main image in this production title because in the genre horror older looking props or objects are used for main creepy focuses for example annabelle was an old fashion doll this principle of old fashion objects we used for our production titles.

The other production title we created through an basic image of a house but this time reversing the colors. we decided to do this because we didn't want to to look as similar as are first one. we used both black and white text so that even though there's two different colors used the audience can still read the full name of the production title "white house films".  these are both are our first designs of productions titles and logos which could be adapted or change through the progression of our trailer. as a group through watching plenty of horror films realised that all the settings for the genre is based in a house that has little colouration as only dull colours are associated with horror. keeping this in mind we took a plain white very basic house and inturpreted text into it using the original colours to get the ffective of the whole production name.

Storyline

A psychopath who escapes from a mental institute, hides his identity as a crazy clown. Brother and sister known as Shannon and Sean, live in one happy family home and have nothing to be scared of, Until they see something which changes their lives.

certificate research for our trailer

For our trailer as a group we had to decided on what age rating we were going to give it, we decided to give our trailer a rating of 15. our film is about a psychotic clown that has escaped and mental asylum. due our idea we looked a films that are similar to our genre and style of film. this chart is of the age ratings that saw the film IT. this is an appropriate film to use for an example due to the antagonist being similar to IT. the chart reads that 61% of 15-24 years old was the most targeted and watched age that saw the film. this result influenced us to deciding what age to make our film trailer. the other reason for us choosing this for our film trailer is because we wanted to target our film at a younger adult ages due to the social lifestyles they have. most teens at this age go out and socialise with friends and one of the main things they like to do in groups is go to the cinema. also linking back to the recently released film IT the protagonists in this film are younger teens, this is effective as it draws in the younger audience of 15+ and they can relate
to the situations of the characters in the film.

Green screen work

for our trailer we decided to have a news report scene about the story line that we have created which involves a killer clown. by creating a realistic atmosphere we  decided to use a green screen this type of tool allows us to use a news reporter background as it would create a professional effect. the green screen tout us new skills with using it for example we learnt how to edit the green screen on adobe which as a group we enjoyed learning. we also learnt how to set up a green screen from scratch. in the editing process of using the green we learnt that there are different layers involved in the process and that how its displayed on the screen we viewed. the two images on this post are two of the layers that were needed when editing that were placed on top of each other to create one main image. we also learnt that if the layers arent ordered correctly then it would mess up the order of the news report as theirs a background foreground and middleground.

New soundtrack for trailer

We found another audio non copyright sound track that we think would be effective for the equilibrium in our trailer. the music has a calm and relaxing tone which sets a settled and soothing atmosphere. this is made through a acoustic guitar. with the genital shots taken at the start of our trailer as a group we feel that this would compliment them well and entice the audience.

Lighting for horror

  • Uplighting - the lighting of an characters face or figure which the  Light source is below this creatively creates shadows under neither the features of the faces such as the nose, eyes and chin. this is effective as it changes our view on the human face which gives the feeling of uncertainty.
  • Silhouette -  the lighting directed in front of a character or object so that from behind the character or object looks black which creates the silhouette effect. this use of lighting is effect as it can hide the identity of a character which makes the audience feel more engaged.
  • Spotlighting - this lighting is when I direct light source shines at a main figure or person to make them stand out more. This camera shot is effective because it easily makes someone or something standout to the audience which draws the attention on the one thing.
  • Underexposure - this type of lighting is when an object or person environment and them selves are of a different gradient in colour to change the mood or situation there in.
  • Harsh light (hard light, chiaroscuro) - this type of lighting creates sharp edged shadows which is why they work so well I'm horror films. they are used to make a scene more intense and scary through shadow.
  • Prominent and projected shadows - these two shadow techniques are effective as they represent figures and objects that aren't there for example the shadow of a person could be seen but the person isn't there this is why its So effectively used in horror.
- these are some common camera shots that are found in horror. that are used effectively to create different atmospheres or feelings that they want to audience too feel.

Camera

In trailer and films caerma is one of the key elects of setting the mood capturing the attention and making a character look and feel the way the audience want them to feel in the moment. there are a variety of different camera shots for example:

Related imageMedium shot - this is when the camera is potion about half way towards someones body so that only half of them or not all of the body is in the shot.  these shots are found run the genre horror frequently as the effect of the distant to the character allows the audience to see the setting but aisles the characters emotion and feelings.
Low angle shot - this shot type is used to make a character or object look domeient and strong the camera is at a low angle facing upwards to give the effect of the person or object height to look bigger which gives the effect of being threatened thats why this camera shot is seen in also horror to make the antagonist look more deadly and fearsome.
close up - this is when the camera is directed closely up to an object or persons face this camera shot is used effectively to capture the facial expression of a person or object this creates tension in a scene especially horror as it is normally used for the jump scares.

Over the shoulder shot - this shot is used to effect in all genre types as it allows for point of view.  this shot is also used when two people are seen in conversation as it allows for the audience to see the other persons facial expression thats not speaking. this shot is used in horror also effectively as when close up to the shoulder it burrs the background which in theory creates a edgy atmosphere.
Establishing shot - an establishing is commonly used in film to set a scene so that the audience can tell where the scene and next shot is going to be this is commonly seen In horror films as most American horror films are set in old suburban houses.

final wanted poster

Location pictures from air raid shelter

We visited an abandoned 1940s air raid shelter to film some scenes for our horror trailer. this was a effective location to film as it had a creepy demonic atmosphere due to the darkness and the vandalism over the walls. we took some shots of the location to show the main features in the location, we took a shot of the door as it looks very effective as the graphity and rusted door which gives the effect of violence. another effective shot was the writing on the wall saying shes watching we thought this was effective as the words play on the mind due to the unknown.

Behind the scenes of filming

Whilst filming for our trailer we took some behind the scenes shots of how we filmed certain shots and as you can see we went to some extreme lengths such as going through a murky stream of water to get the best shot what we could get. we tried different angles and shots but decided this angle was the best for the type of shot we were looking for.

developed wanted poster

This is the final design for our wanted poster we have added the picture of the antagonist and also added information below that is written to inform the people in the trailer about him. we have added the main aspects of a wanted poster and have changed and used different font for different sentence types. we made the poster in black and white as we thought that color would make it look less effective as we wanted it to be seen as dark and demonic as possible.
