Evaluation 1

Representation Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Location: as a group we decided to find a location that would link to the genre in which we chose due to last year we learnt that the location can change the feel in a scene and help build the tension. after look back we feel that our location is similar to that in saw as both location are seen to be abandoned and derelict this is where in horror the antagonist is normally seen in.
Another factor in our trailer that we feel that conforms to conventions to a horror trailer is the clown for the antagonist. we felt inspired by the film it that recently got released and the antagonist being penny wise the clown. but we adapted and changed the features to make the clown look more human related so that it fits in to our story line. The two images of the clowns have some similarity such as the colorful of hair as this links to the stereotypical look of a clown. the color red links to danger and anger. our clown is different because it has more of a sinister look due to the grey skin tone of the face and the large mouth with rotting teeth. as its a mask we feel that this is our unique look.

poster credits

For the poster,  we decided to make the poster credits so that at the bottom of the poster, the audience will be able to see who stars in our trailer, who did what job and when the film will be released in cinema. For me to be able to do this, we went onto Photoshop and started off with a black canvas and looking at different text options to see which one would stand out better but also which text would be effective for the poster. I used the white colour for the text so that the audience could read what had been written but also so that its clear and understandable. I wanted the text to be bold because it makes it look so appealing but also that it is for a horror poster instead of something which would be on a kids poster.

feedback of our trailer

This video shows our media class analyzing our media trailer. Each person was given a different focus point of our trailer.

Each person was given a different focus point of our film. we will be responding to each individual's suggestions on how we could have improved our production. As well as this we also received positive comments from each member of our class, of what they personally liked about our film trailer. These comments related to the narrative, editing, camera and sound that we used in our trailer.
The first member of our class thought that at the end of the trailer, we could've extended the length of the soundtrack that is playing over the titles. However, as a group we feel that we made the right choice to do this, as the soundtrack was broken up and disjointed to create tension at the end of the trailer.

after the  next person felt that our clown could've been wearing a more of basic costume. we did agree with her suggestion, as it would've been more conventional to the genre. But we decided that we wanted to go against the convention by using the costume that we chose.
Another group member felt that we could have extended the use of jump cuts that we included at the end of the trailer. He felt that this would create even more tension, making the audience feel more involved with the production. we agree with this comment, as fast paced transitions highlight that there is a high level of action in the trailer.
The next person in our class suggestion that we received was to make the titles stand out to the audience in a more effective. I agree with this person's comment and believe we could've done this by varying the font of the titles in the middle of our production. This would've made them look more menacing to the audience, conforming to the conventions of titles in horror film trailers.

The final piece of constructive feedback that we received from one of our group members was related to the use of camera angles at the beginning of our trailer. She felt that we could of used more of a variety of camera angles. I agree with this piece of feedback and I feel that we could've achieved this by using low angle shots to open our trailer in the woodland setting. This would have given a more scenic setting to open the trailer, establishing the location of the trailer.

filming plan

As a group we have created a filming plan so that when we start filming we know exactly which scenes to film and where to film them. The filming plan will help us be more organised with our filming and order our scenes in the correct way. the reason for us also to make one is because last year for our opening 2 minutes for our film we were completely un organised so we learnt from this.

The Craze Film Poster

this is our  poster for our trailer "The Craze". What we included was a screenshot from the trailer of the antagonist terrorizing the protagonist because we found this shot very effective and thought it would get the audiences attention when they saw this trailer. At the top of the poster we included one of our slogans we came up with "Behind the mask, reveals a story" which actually goes with the photo on the poster because the antagonist is wearing a mask and this is then teasing the audience about this character. In the middle we added the title of our trailer so the audience would know the name of the film. The poster credits got added so that if the audience was interested they could see what each person role was in the trailer. And finally we added the date of the film being released which is "31st October", so then the audience knows when the film is being released and most people see horrors around this time. We had all the context on a black background because it wanted to look like a horror film and it makes the poster stand out more. The text is the color of white as this stands out well on a black background and the audience are then able to read it properly.

Magazine ideas for trailer

This is our final magazine cover for our trailer "the craze". we had a couple of ideas for the front cover such as the picture of the clown attacking the two childish characters. we decided on this final idea as we believe that having the clown on the front cover will entice the genre of the audience. having the craze in bold letters on the front cover is conventionality to magazine covers as it displays the name of the trailer in bold italic font. also by adding the slogan underneath entices the audience as its almost like a rhetorical question or statement that makes the reader think which is why its a physiological horror.

Our trailer

This is our trailer that we created and made after the research was complete.

animated storyboard

This is our animated story board we created this by using a editing software called imovie this was a simple easy use software that allowed us to cut and crop images with fade transitions which animated our pictures drawn by Sean and Shannon. we started this process by drawing out all scenes and then filming each section for only a few seconds this gave us the chance to crop down any unwanted footage.
