Contact lense ideas for clown

To go with the make up look for our clown as a group we thought that contacts lenses would go with the look of our clown. the uses of contact lenses are seen to be used in most horror films to make the antagonist look more threatening and scary as we want to create the same aspects in our trailer we thought that it would be a good idea. having the use of contacts dehumanizes someone and doesn't make them look right which gives it that daunting effect. as we have designed the makeup of the clown to fit  the shape a style of a normal face with using only face paints the contacts would have a great effect and be one of the scary features that standout most. as this is an initail idea we havent decided as a group whether or not this feature will be used in our final costume creation for our antagonist.

Software Reserch

Adobe Premier elements 10

Before the stages of filming began we decided to research into good and easy to use video editing software. after finding a variety there was two options to chose from firstly is adobe premier elements 10 this software seems basic to use with some key professional elements to it, after looking further into this software we found out that it allows for so many editing options to video such as transitions audio and video changing also it allows you to change the colour through grading and effects that can be added. one of the key features that premier elements can do that stands out for me is the ability to use a green screen this means that if we were to use a green screen in our trailer theres a future that early and quickjly apples the green screen method for you.  another key feature that I think is effective is the ability to layer different pieces on top of each other this includes video audio and picture. Adobe premiere elements can be used for both begginer and intermediate leaners. the step by step guides built into thee software showing you how to use each feature correctly could be very helpful. and that the organisational future that automatically organises your footage and files is very beneficial.

                                                   IMovie

Another video editing software we researched into was iMovie this software is very similar to premier elements due to the simple use and layout of the software. its easy to organise video with the capability to cut crop duplicate video and images. also the ability to add over lays and text to image and video is very effective. even though this is a good software to use there are some things that aren't as good as premier elements for example the future to be able to cut and move audio is not apart of the iMovie software which is a paints making a trailer sound is very important so the freedom to move it around is key. another issue is that the layout of the software is harder to navigate due to the features being compact into one visible icon for example the video and audio are together in one bar unlike separate in premier elements. after the usage and trailing on both softwares finding out a discovering the different aspects of them as a group we have decided to use premier elements. last year for our opening 2 minutes we used iMovie for parts and due to the result also we thought as we wanted the more providential look and features for our trailer this year we would go for that.                                                             

Initial Storyboard

After doing initial ideas and deciding on what genre and title to use we created a storyboard that step by step scene by scene shows the chronological order of how our trailer is filmed. as this is an initial idea story board some of the ideas or scenes could change due to the development of our ideas throughout.

Location idea 3

Finally this is our location idea 3 which is set over in fetcham in seans house. me and Sean also speak about the features of the house and how they are and would be effective in our horror trailer. as a group we thought these three ideas would be most effective because there all opposite locations which allows us to explore all the possible features available to us.

This is our location 2 idea which is set in gay wood road in which me and Sean talk about the effective features that would again benefit our trailer. we decide to change up the type of location as many horror films are located and found to be inbuilt up suburban housed areas.

Location idea 1

This is our first location idea which is set in ashtead common me and Sean talk about how the features of the setting would benefit our trailer and how it would effect the trailer to link to our genre choice which is horror.

clown makeup development

 These pictures show the development and adaptations we have made to the clowns makeup. the changes we made that change the style of clown make up is the mouth and eyes we have kept the original white base. the eyes have been developed by have the black dripped down the face in different ways to make the clowns face show emotion as the clown has been through hard times. the angle of the black at the top of the eye has been pointed down so that when looking at the camera as shown in the picture below. we feel that it makes the clown look more angry and aggressive.  the mouth has also been developed by making the features of the mouth more visible and bold. we made the edges of the mouth go up the mouth like the last but in more of a pointed way, this gives the aggressive and psychotic look. we added black tint to the inner mouth to help create depth and more of a dirty and worn look. this symbolizes him being emotionally psychotic over time.

The new addition to the developed make for the clown was the red nose. normally in films clowns have a larger nose that stands out and is seen as one of their main features but as we wanted for our clown to look different and have more of a human like look we thought with just painting the end part of the nose red and adding black to make it look more rough and warn it has successfully make the clown look more scary and goes with the rest of our clown look. we purchased a clown wig to go with this makeup look that with top of the style of our clown.

This is the interview of the character hannah we asked a selection of different questions that relate to the trailer. the questions in the trailer that were asked were:

1. Why do you think you're suited to the role you're playing in the trailer?
2. What do you think about the plot?
3.seeing other horror films and trailers how do you think ours is different from others?
4. as we are doing a horror trailer what do you think about the genre?

we thought these four questions were best suited to ask as they linked well the the subject and topic.

sound track research idea 2

Much like the first sound track this one has the change in tempo for deep and slow sound to high sharp sounds. this one is slightly different as the music constantly switches between the high and low tempo in a stereotypical tune that is seen in more earlier horror films. we thought this would be very effective in our film trailer because of the uses of the constant switch between tempos it would give the feel of tension throughout which is what people like to see in horror film trailers. it will also keep the audience hooked in the moments that we want to create tension this music will work very well.

Soundtrack research idea 1

After listening to this soundtrack we feel that it has qualities that would fit our trailer very well. at the begin of the soundtrack the music starts quite and as the tension builds the tempo of the music increases. this is effective for our film because as our genre of choice is horror this would link very well to our trailer as we intednd on having tense and jumpy moments so the use of tempo changes and deep tones will make that most effective. as we have chosen horror music is a large element of the tension builds and jumpy parts so we have to pick the right non copyrighted sound for our film trailer. in most horror films only deep and high pitched tones are used this is because it has more of an impacted when scary scenes are seen. this creates a sinister creepy feel to the films and makes the audience feel on edge and slightly threatened in the moment.

character profiles

Shannon: One of the protagonists of the movie, she plays the role of a victim of the clown character. She is the sister of Sean, the other protagonist of the movie. She has a very shy and quiet personality, as well as being childish and immature, which is why she would fit the role of the stereotypical horror film protagonist.  Her personality would make the audience want to empathise with her. 

Sean: The brother of Shannon and the other main protagonist of the film. Although he is similar to Shannon, has a slightly more confident personality, although he can also be a timid character. Due to this trait, it would make the audience want to empathise with him.

Baily (the clown): The antagonist of the movie. He has a rough background, and is very lonely, having previously been in a psychiatric hospital. This drives him to make the choice to go out and take out his anger by dressing up as a sinister, evil clown out on the streets, to terrify the public. 

Baily (news reporter): The news reporter that is seen in the news clip as smart and sophisticated and a confident speaker to the public. 

Hannah (news reporter); the same as the first is seen as witty and smart and is confidently able to speak.

Wanted poster idea for our film

This image of of our first idea for our wanted poster that would be used in our film trailer.this is a very simplistic style of poster with little detail but we wanted to try out this look of poster. simple and clear bold font has been used for the text with is normally seen on a wanted poster. the picture that would appear in the alligated box would be of the clown as it would link to the storyline of hi escaping from a hospital.  this will allow the audience to identify the character. are inspiration for the wanted poster was our storyline as we thought it would give a good effect to the clown in a threatening way to the audience.

Make up ideas for Antagonist (clown)

These pictures that are shown below is initial ideas for our antagonists makeup. after researching clown makeup on well known clowns such as pennywise and the joker we decided to base our idea around them leaning more towards the joker in this attempt. this is because we want our clown to have more of human like features as our clown is a psycho clown that has escaped from a hospital.

The images shows the make up design from a side angle and front one  to show the use of white black and red face paint used in certain ares for example we used black under the eyes to create depth this creates a sinister a scary effect as the eyes on the antagonist become more visibly intimidating.  the red paint we used on the mouth is used much like an original make up for clowns to make the mouth and smile look more bold and threatening. this is an effective look for our clown because one of the main features of a clown is its daunting smile this is one feature we want to look stereotype to the normal clown due to the effect is gives on the audience. much like the original clown we decided to extend the smile further up the face to create a larger mouth.by using the general colours of clown make up we want to link to the general stereotypes of the original clown as clowns are seen in today's media as more sinister rather than funny joke like.

Questionnaire For our Trailer

This is the questionnaire we used to find out what people would like to see in our horror and if our film title we liked the most was chosen. by using this questionnaire we also allow for primary feedback that would allow us to gain the right and best information that we can apply to our film.

Horror film production company research

Blumhouse Productions: This is an American production motion picture company also a television production company which is known for the successful horror films that it has produced. this production company was founded in 2000 and owned by Jason blum. Some of the well known horror films that blumhouse have made are Sinister 1&2, the purge and paranormal activity, all of these films doubling their original budget by millions. As these films were such a successes this is a inspired us to use this production company for our film. most of the horror films made by this production company is mainly 15 age rated which links to our age rating of our film this year which is why this is also why we are focusing on this production company.

New line cinema: An american film production company was founded in 1967. located in new York city new line cinema has produced also some successful horror films such as the conjuring, nightmare on elm street and IT. we have decided to use this production company as an option for our trailer. the other reason for us to focus on this production company is due to that the produced a clown film we were interested in this company.



Mood board

This is our mood board for our horror trailer "The Craze". As a group we decided to find pictures which related to our trailer to help us out a little bit more. In the mood board there is a variety of different camera angles used in horror and other main stream films for effect. in the mood board we have included close ups medium shots establishing shots. during filming we can look back at our mood board to refer to the shots used so we can interpret them in our film trailer for effect. we have also included font styles and ideas in our mood board for ideas for our titling. the most effective lettering and styles are the stereotypical kinds like blood dripping from the lettering fans of this genre enjoy seeing the stereotypes of horror that why included it in our mood board. also the words sometimes read an action like "I will kill you" this is effective as it gets the audience engaged and entice left wondering in fear. the other images used in this mood board is mise en scene ideas like props or make up for our antagonist which is a clown.  we added these examples to help us when thinking about what we want to use and show in our trailer as mise en scene is very important element in film and trailers.

Make up development

As a group we researched different ways to apply makeup in a effective and realistic way this video was very informative and helpful to learn how to create this look. We thought that this would be a good effect to have on our antagonist as it would give a more scary and sinister look. with the bruises on the clown it suggests that he has been through hard times that have made him the way he is. the use of special effects which is seen through mise en scene is seen in famous clown horror films such as IT and all hallows eve, we decided to take the ideas from these films as we want our trailer to look as effective as possible.

As a group and reviewing the other clowns looks we had to decide what feature we want to include on our clown and what we would make our own. the reason for using some stereotypical looks from clowns is because we know that what makes them look as horrific as they do. but adapting or changing bits makes the clown look unique and our own. after watching this useful tutorial we have decided to use the normal stereotypical clown make up of white base with over coat of  black and red. we also love the use of the contacts which give a more scary effect to the clown. but we are going to adapt and change some features such as the red nose which we want to change to make our own also the color of the hair which we think is stereo typically found on all clowns.

Title idea 1

This is our first design idea for the title of our film. as a group we felt that this was very appropriate and fitted our genre of film. the scratchy rough effect gives the writing a sinister look and makes the audience think that the clown is psychotic and threatening. the use of capital letters is effective as it makes the title look bold and looks strong with the black background behind.

Our trailer initial planning

This is an imagine of our initial ideas for our trailer some of these ideas we have used as well as the name of the film the craze and parts of the storyline. the reason for these ideas and for the subject of clowns is because we all enjoy and think that clowns are seen as threating and scary as they have been used in many films to scary an audince for example IT ans all hallows eve. the name of the film we decided on is because as many people know that in 2016 there was a clown craze around the world where people would dress up as clowns and try and scare people, this was our inspiration for our film trailer. we thought this would be most effective as no film or trailer has been made on this topic. we are still indecisive on some elements of our trailer such as sound tracks and camera work but this can be developed and learnt as we adapt our ideas.
